Sue Mickelson Swimming has an unlimited make-up policy for missed lessons. Notification for non-attendance MUST be provided within 4 hours through the Family Portal located on our webpage or the simply swim app for a make-up class to be given. This generates a make-up class to be used at a later date. The portal will not allow you to mark absent within 4 hours.
It is your responsibility to find an available class through the Family Portal for your make-up class. Make-ups are not refundable or exchangeable for cash or credit against any current or future swimming semester. Any unused make-up classes will be removed at the end of each semester.
Make-ups are not given out to cancelled make-up classes. Only book a make-up lesson if you can make it. Occasionally, if you have boked into an available class that we need to cancel or we do not think your child will suit (age, ability, etc), we will contact you and replace your make-up class.
If a sibling has accumulated excess make-ups, you may transfer to another sibling from the same family upon request to our admin team via email.TIP: If you have booked holidays later in the semester, please mark your child absent in advance so you can make those classes up ahead of time. This will avoid them missing out, or cramming classes into the last 1-2 weeks of the semester.
TIP: The safety of you and your family is always paramount. If for example before bed you believe your child will be sick in the morning, use the make-up policy to mark your child absent in the allocated time. A make-up class will automatically be granted. You can always rebook your child if they are healthy in the morning and there is availability.
Here at Sue Mickelson Swimming, we believe it’s important to learn to swim in many different weather elements, this means we continue to swim in the rain. However, if there is lightning, we will cancel classes and you will be notified via email/SMS. Also check our Facebook page as we will communicate there as well.
These cancellations will usually be done at last minute as the weather can be unpredictable, so please be aware of the weather conditions and the possibility of cancellation. If we cancel a class, a make-up class will be credited and can be managed by yourself in the family portal. As with other make-up lessons, these expire at the end of the semester. If you are not available to come at any other time throughout the semester for any reason, the make-up lesson will be forfeited at the end of the semester. There will be no credit or refund for wet weather make-ups.
The safety of you and your family is always paramount. If you are not wanting to be out in uncertain weather conditions or do not feel comfortable sending your child in the rain, etc, please use the make-up policy and mark your child absent within the 4 hour time frame and a make-up class will automatically be granted.
You can always rebook if the weather clears and there is availability.
No, we do not swim on public holidays and this is reflected in your fees.
Yes, we do swim on pupil free days.
- Yes our teachers are all AUSTSWIM qualified and all hold their updated CPR certificate.

- All our teachers have a love of teaching children and are downright AWESOME!!!
We do not do refunds. When you enroll your child, it is for the whole semester. Exceptional circumstances will be taken into advisement.
- Sunscreen is encouraged. Please ensure you read the label as some sun creams are activated 20 minutes before hopping into the pool.
- We do not supply sunscreen due to reactions of some children.
- New students: We need information before we put your child into a level. Please fill out the enquiry form and we will be in contact. Our philosophy at Sue Mickelson Swimming is to start them at a lower level initially to gain confidence, get to know the teacher and the way we operate before progressing to a higher level. No one wants to struggle in their class at a new swim school.
- Current students: Unless you have been told by a teacher, your child will be at the same level as they were last semester.
Throughout the term, our teachers are constantly reviewing your child and their ability in their lesson. We will let you know when they are ready to progress to the next level. This is based on their ability, age and maturity.
If we find that your child is in the wrong level e.g. they are too strong for their class, we will let you know and talk about availabilities for the next level up.
Contact Sue and outline any concerns you might have about your child’s progression. We will then be able to contact you to have a chat about your child’s progress.
Private lessons may be advised to promote growth in areas your child struggles in.
The home pool is around 32 degrees which is ideal for pre-school aged Learn to Swim.
The magnesium salt in the water is also great for muscle recovery.
The pool is an outside pool that has 2×4 meter umbrellas to help shelter your children from the sun.
We recommend parking along Buran St as it connects to our entrance gate.
There is also plenty of parking along Craigslea St, but please be careful crossing the road.
No. The swimming teacher will let the children in through the gate when they are ready to ensure everyone is safe.
There are two waiting areas available for family members attending the swimming lesson. The upstairs waiting area is shaded and located behind the pool fence, allowing access to watch the lesson. The downstairs waiting area is completely undercover, with seating and a TV that livestreams the pool where people can watch the lesson.
We ask that when you are watching your child’s lesson that you supervise any other children that you have in your care. It can be distracting for other parents watching, and children in their lessons when there are loud noises or they can hear children playing loudly outside.
When you are viewing in the upstairs waiting area, please sit back and enjoy watching your child’s lesson. Standing or leaning over the fence can prevent other parents from watching their child’s lesson and it can also distract your own child.
There are two heaters located in the downstairs waiting area for families to enjoy on colder days. A remote is available on the bench below the TV to turn them on and off.
Cameras are used within the pool area, waiting areas and along the perimetre of the house. This is to provide access to a livestream of the pool to the downstairs viewing area and for security purposes.
Financial
Questions
- All fees are to be paid prior to the commencement of the swim season unless you have made other arrangements with Sue (direct debits, etc.).
Once you have registered for a class an invoice will be generated and emailed to you. Once you receive this invoice you will have 14 days to pay in full (unless you have chosen to pay by direct debit.) If your invoice is not paid by the due date, your place in your chosen class will not be secured as we have a waitlist for many of our classes. We will notify you prior to this occurring.
Financial Hardship
We understand that at times families can go through financial hardship. If this is the case, please feel free to contact us as we can arrange special payment plans if needed (as per our discretion).
Yes we do offer a family discount for four or more children from immediate family and residing at the same residential address. The fourth child’s enrollment is at a 50% discount.
